NVIDIA Releases GeForce 359.06 WHQL Game Ready Drivers

NVIDIA today released its latest GeForce "Game Ready" drivers, which usually precede major game title launches. The new version 359.06 WHQL driver adds optimizations for the week's two big releases - Just Cause 3, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. These include SLI profiles on games that support it, and GeForce Experience optimal settings. The rest of its feature-set is consistent with Release 359 series drivers.

(PR) Seagate and Newisys Demonstrate Flash Storage Architecture Capable of 1TBps

When speed matters in high-performance computing (HPC) storage, Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ: STX) and Newisys have the industry's fastest flash storage design. The two companies today announced that 21 Newisys NSS-2601 with dual NSS-HWxEA Storage Server Modules deployed with Seagate's newest SAS 1200.2 SSD drives can be combined in a single 42U rack to achieve block I/O performance of 1TB/s with 5PB of storage. Each Newisys 2U server with 60 Seagate SSDs is capable of achieving bandwidth of 49GB/s. Newisys is a division of Sanmina Corporation (NASDAQ: SANM) and a leading provider of data center products for enterprise and cloud applications.

"This is one of the highest storage densities ever achieved in the industry, and holds the potential for new breakthroughs in storage system performance," said Brett Pemble, VP and general manager of flash products, Seagate. Samsung Unveils SSD 750 Series with Special Corporate Warranty

Samsung launched the 750 EVO line of mainstream SSDs, designed for the OEM channel, particularly business desktops and notebooks. These 2.5-inch drives, featuring SATA 6 Gb/s interfaces, offer extended corporate warranty periods. Some models offer warranties as high as 6-year, others 5-year. The drives are available in two capacities, 120 GB and 250 GB, with variants based on warranty policy on offer. Under the hood, these drives offer a feature set similar to the 850 EVO series - up to 540 MB/s sequential reads, up to 520 MB/s sequential writes, 97,000 IOPS 4K random access for the 250 GB variant, and 94,000 IOPS random access for the 120 GB variant.

Запрет на закупки иностранного ПО в России: что будет делаться и зачем?

Дмитрий Медведев несколько дней назад подписал постановление правительства №1236 от 16 ноября 2015 года, в соответствии с которым государственным структурам запрещено закупать иностранное ПО при наличии российского аналога. Новость об этом появилась 20 ноября 2015 г. и прошла по новостным ресурсам; зачастую — со сгущением красок. Созданная система только начинает работать, и судя по всему, проблем у нее впереди будет еще много. Тем не менее, на мой взгляд, она задает правильное направление развития. Государство возвращает себе активную роль, начинает планировать развитие отрасли, причем выступая в качестве не только регулятора, но и одного из участников рынка. То есть старая позиция правительства «рынок сам все отрегулирует, а государству нужно отойти в сторону» постепенно уходит в прошлое.

AMD today released Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.11.1 Update. A follow up to last week's major release, version 15.11.1 addresses a major issue with driver-level VGA fan speed control, which saw the driver either crank fan-speeds up to 100%, or lock them down to 30%, causing GPUs to overheat. In addition, the driver addresses several game-specific bugs related to Just Cause 3, Fallout 4, Star Wars: Battlefront, and Call of Duty Black Ops III.

(PR) AMD Promotes Renowned Graphics Architect Michael Mantor to Corporate Fellow

AMD announced the appointment of graphics and parallel compute architect Michael Mantor to AMD Corporate Fellow for his demonstrated leadership in graphics engineering. At AMD, Corporate Fellow is the highest possible level of technical recognition with only four employees currently holding the title. Mantor has made key contributions to a diverse set of AMD graphics products, including those that power the Microsoft Xbox One, Sony PlayStation PS4, and multiple generations of AMD Radeon graphics. As Corporate Fellow, he will lead graphics and compute architecture teams in the development of next generation architectures to be used in PCs, game consoles, virtual reality devices, workstations, and super computers.

"Mike is the most passionate graphics and parallel computing architect I have worked with. His direct impact on more than 10 generations of GPU architectures at AMD is a result of Mike's determination to turn great architectures into products that reach millions of users," said Raja Koduri, senior vice president and chief architect, AMD Radeon Technologies Group.
