(PR) SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps Now Ready for Development

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group today announced the completion of the USB 3.1 Specification which adds enhancements to enable SuperSpeed USB to operate at up to 10 Gbps. This latest release of the specification will be available today for download from the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) website.



SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps uses a more efficient data encoding and will deliver more than twice the effective data through-put performance of existing SuperSpeed USB over enhanced, fully backward compatible USB connectors and cables. Compatibility is assured with existing USB 3.0 software stacks and device class protocols as well as with existing 5 Gbps hubs and devices and USB 2.0 products.

Zalman Announces Reserator 3 CPU Cooler

Zalman formally announced Reserator 3 closed-loop liquid CPU cooler, which has been in the news since November 2012. The Reserator 3 another of Zalman's attempts at a modern liquid CPU cooler that comes with its major components pre-assembled, coolant filled, and loop closed, following last year's CNPS20LQ, which uses an Asetek-based design. Its design integrates elements from the company's classic CNPS line of CPU air-coolers, and generous amounts of chrome-plating, and LED lighting. Handling heat dissipation to air, is a heatsink that uses a series of coolant tubes and heat pipes; instead of a conventional liquid-cooling radiator. This heatsink is ventilated by a 120 mm custom-design fan. Zalman claims that the cooler can handle thermal loads as high as 400W, making it fit for some really hot chips like AMD's FX-9590. Zalman didn't announce pricing.

Swiftech Launches a SATA Powered 8-way PWM Splitter

Swiftech announces the release of an 8-Way PWM splitter with SATA connector, the function of this device is to connect up to 8 PWM devices (fans and/or pumps) to a single PWM fan connector on the motherboard, thus enabling speed-control of all connected PWM devices simultaneously. Scythe recommends users to make use of the "CPU_Fan" connector of the motherboard, because most motherboard manufacturers usually allow a greater range of adjustments on this particular connector. Scythe states that the SATA connector employed by the device, eliminates many of the problems encountered with the typical Molex connectors found on such devices, however it leaves us guessing what those problems are and which of them are addressed by their SATA solution.

MSI Teases GeForce GTX 780 Lightning Some More

In the run up to its 7th August launch, MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning got teased by the company's Europe office some more. Adding to the abstract "I can hear thunder" video presentation from earlier this month, MSI posted three new pictures. The first one depicts the "Lightning" engraving onto the cooler shroud. The second one reveals a new GPU Reactor module that isn't an unforgivable color mismatch this time around. Lastly, there's one that gives us a glimpse of its cooler, particularly its fan, which borrows a few design ideas from NVIDIA, and its metal fan hubs in use since GeForce GTX 690, GTX Titan and some other reference design boards.

Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:MU) ("Micron") and Elpida Memory, Inc. ("Elpida") trustees announced today the closing of Micron's acquisition of 100 percent of Elpida's equity, pursuant to a Sponsor Agreement entered into on July 2, 2012 in connection with Elpida's corporate reorganization proceedings conducted under the jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court. In a related transaction, Micron also announced today the completion of its acquisition of a 24 percent share of Rexchip Electronics Corporation from Powerchip Technology Corporation and certain of its affiliates. The transactions will be recorded for accounting purposes as being effective at 11:59 p.m., Tokyo time, on July 31, 2013.



Elpida's assets include a 300 millimeter (mm) DRAM fabrication facility located in Hiroshima, Japan; an approximate 65 percent ownership interest in Rexchip, whose assets include a 300mm DRAM fabrication facility located in Taiwan; and a 100 percent ownership interest in Akita Elpida Memory, Inc., whose assets include an assembly and test facility located in Akita, Japan. Together with the Rexchip shares acquired from Powerchip, Micron will control approximately 89 percent of Rexchip's outstanding shares and 100 percent of Rexchip product supply. The manufacturing assets of Elpida and Rexchip together can produce more than 185,000 300mm wafers per month, which represents an approximate 45 percent increase in Micron's current manufacturing capacity.

Panasonic Corporation today announced that it will start the world's first*1 mass-production of microcomputers with mounted ReRAM [1], a type of non-volatile memory, in August 2013. Through utilizing microcomputers with mounted ReRAM, it will be possible to achieve high-speed rewriting and longer operational times in battery-powered equipment, such as portable devices and security devices etc., reducing the amount of maintenance required. The first of these mass-produced products is the low power consumption 8-bit microcomputer, MN101LR series.



In recent years, battery-driven equipment, such as portable healthcare products and security equipment for disaster and crime prevention, is becoming more common. There is a growing requirement to decrease the maintenance time for such equipment by reducing the frequency of battery replacements through extending the battery operation time. In addition, due to the high performance of the equipment, there is a need to read and write information in memory at high speed. In order to respond to such requirements, the company has introduced a microcomputer series with mounted ReRAM, featuring low power consumption and high-speed rewriting. The first part of the series comes in 16 models which feature a wide variety of peripheral functions, such as built-in LCD display control, high precision 12-bit AD converter, clock function, etc. Panasonic plans to expand the field of applications of ReRAM microcomputers to other applications, including non-contact IC cards such as electronic passports, wearable equipment connected to the cloud, and energy harvesting [2] related products.
